The best cars hitting the roads in 2026

The automotive world is more complex than ever. You can buy a new model that runs solely on fuel, or one that offers electric assistance as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid. Or you can skip the gas altogether and rely solely on battery power.
With long-term EV plans scaling back, many manufacturers are shifting course to focus on hybrids and next-generation internal combustion engines. This means the market will soon look more diverse, with automakers offering something for everyone.
Let's take a look at some of the vehicles that will be on sale or released in 2026. Here are the 13 best models...
Alfa Romeo Stelvio
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is one of many models backing away from its all-electric commitment. While it will ride on the same platform that underpins the Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger EVs, the Stelvio is now set to offer gasoline and hybrid variants when it goes on sale. Once that happens, it will face competition from the BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, the latter of which will offer multiple electric options.
Bentley Urban SUV
Bentley is going (slightly) smaller with a smaller, electric SUV slotted just below the Bentayga. For now, the automaker is simply calling it an "Urban SUV," but the baby Bentayga needs to have a real name before it launches in 2026 and goes on sale in early 2027. Details like performance or range aren't known.
BMW 3 Series / EV
Following the launch of the iX3 electric SUV later this year, BMW will unveil the new 3 Series, complete with gasoline and electric powertrain options, in 2026. Loosely based on the Neue Klasse concept, the new 3 Series will pair dramatic, retro looks with a range of gas engines and an all-electric battery pack.
The Genesis GV90 continues the slow rollout of new Genesis models, with a full-size, all-electric flagship SUV positioned above the Kia EV9 and the recently launched Hyundai Ioniq 9. The GV90 is likely a three-row crossover with aerodynamic styling and ample interior space for all passengers to stretch out. A significant price difference is expected when compared to the Lucid Gravity.
Lamborghini Revuelto SV
The Revuelto SV, the first of many hypothetical versions of the V-12 hybrid flagship supercar, could propel the already powerful supercar into hypercar territory. We were expecting the SV later this year, but recent reports suggest a 2026 launch instead. In either case, major aero upgrades are expected to contribute to its wild looks, along with more power. At the very least, the Revuelto is expected to produce 1,001 horsepower, and its price is estimated to be $600,000 overseas.
Mazda Rotary Sports Car
Mazda is finally producing its long-awaited successor to the RX-7. The company has confirmed it's working on a new sports car based on the Iconic SP concept from a few years ago, and that it will feature some form of rotary power. However, details are still quite thin, and we don't expect to see prototypes on the road until at least next year, with the production version expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
Mercedes-AMG GT XX
Of all the concepts on this list, the Mercedes-AMG GT XX appears to be the closest to production. Details have been revealed about its three-motor, all-electric powertrain, including a claimed output of 1,341 horsepower and an estimated top speed of 233 mph. Billed as a "four-door supercar," the GT XX is expected to boast equally impressive specs.
Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman EV
Porsche's first foray into the EV sports car market isn't going as planned. Despite development delays, it appears the mid-engine (mid-battery) coupe and roadster twins are underway, with production of the gas models slated to end before the end of the year. However, we wouldn't be surprised if Porsche's plans change now that the gas-powered Macan is being extended.
Porsche Cayenne EV
Following in the footsteps of the Macan before it, the Porsche Cayenne will get the EV treatment, with a production version planned for 2026. We could see a version of the electric SUV as early as this year, but Porsche says the production version won't arrive until at least 2026. When it does, the Cayenne EV will pack the automaker's Premium Platform Electric (PPE) 800-volt architecture with somewhere around 600 horsepower.
Rivian R2
The electric adventure brand is expanding its lineup for the first time with the introduction of the R2. Slotting below the R1S/R1T utes, the R2 is a boxy compact crossover. As with the others, there are countless ways to customize the R2, with the power to choose one, two, or three electric motors for the drivetrain. Rivian is in a better position than other EV manufacturers because it hasn't experienced delays that would have prevented its 2026 launch date.
Scout Terra / Traveler
Volkswagen's newly acquired truck brand, Scout, is back with two upcoming models. The powertrains, which will power a new pickup truck similar to Rivian's R1S and R1T, and a new SUV built on the same platform, are also electric. Giving the Scout an edge is a gas-assisted range extender that will boost its total range to 500 miles. We'll know more as the Scout moves closer to production.
Toyota FJ Cruiser
The FJ Cruiser is soon seeing a rebirth, but it likely won't be the so-called retro model last sold in 2014. Toyota previously teased the silhouette of a smaller, boxier SUV, while patent filings continue to give us hope. We'll ride this wave of enthusiasm until Toyota says otherwise. If it follows recent industry trends, the FJ Cruiser won't be all-electric.
Toyota RAV4
The RAV4 became the best-selling passenger crossover in 2024. Naturally, Toyota was careful to shake up the formula without rehashing it. The sixth-generation RAV4 features a design familiar to the outgoing model and now joins the Camry in offering a hybrid-only lineup. Plug-in variants are once again available, while a GR Sport joins the lineup for the first time. In the world of the RAV4, hundreds of thousands are expected to hit the streets soon.
