Norris: 'It's ridiculous to think Verstappen won't fight for the title'

Norris: 'It's ridiculous to think Verstappen won't fight for the title'

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri currently share the top two spots in the championship.

In the constructors' championship, McLaren has more than twice as many points as its nearest rival.

All things considered, McLaren has a big advantage, but Norris believes that no definitive statement can be made yet.

"If you look at it mathematically, everyone on the grid at the moment has a chance of being champion," the Briton said ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

"If you think it's just going to be between me and Oscar, I think that's a bit of a farce. There's still a lot of opportunity."

"Both Max and Ferrari can still win, they will get better as the season progresses," he said.

Norris has won two races so far this season, while teammate Piastri has been the first to see the chequered flag four times.

Verstappen, despite his wins in Japan and Imola, currently sits in third place with 136 points.

"We've been battling with Max every weekend," Norris said.

"He has been on the podium many times and won races. He beat us clearly in Imola because he was faster than us. So it's not just a fight between Oscar and me," he said.

Norris, who is aware of the rivalry with Piastri as well as the threat from Verstappen, added that he does not feel pressure to take the championship lead and approaches every weekend with the same motivation.

"It feels great to be the leader of the championship. It's nice to have more points than everyone else."

"But it doesn't change the way I work every day. It doesn't change my goal."
