BYD's sales increased by 880 percent

Chinese carmaker BYD announced that its sales in the UK increased by 880 percent in September compared to last year.
The company sold 11,271 vehicles in the country last month, the majority of which were the brand's plug-in hybrid SUV, the Seal U.
The UK has become BYD's largest market outside China . Electric vehicle sales reached a record high in September, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
According to the BBC, the UK's attractiveness as a market for companies like BYD was due to the fact that, unlike the European Union and the US, it does not impose customs duties on electric vehicles originating from China.
Offering more affordable models than its Western competitors, BYD increased its share in the country's market to 3.6 percent.
They opened their 100th store.
BYD's UK manager, Bono Ge, said the brand would introduce more hybrid and electric models in the coming months, adding that their future in the UK is "extremely exciting" with the recent opening of their 100th store.
According to SMMT data, sales of pure battery electric vehicles in the UK reached a record high in September, approaching 73,000 units. Plug-in hybrid sales increased even faster.
The Kia Sportage, Ford Puma, and Nissan Qashqai topped the UK's best-selling models in September. Chinese brands Jaecoo 7 and BYD Seal U also made the top 10 list.
But despite the rise in electric vehicles, gasoline and diesel vehicles still accounted for more than half of new car sales.
The European Union announced last October that it would impose tariffs of up to 45% on electric vehicles imported from China. This measure is reportedly aimed at preventing the Chinese government's subsidies from weakening the European automotive sector.
In the US, BYD and other Chinese manufacturers cannot enter the market due to high tariffs that remained in effect during the Donald Trump and Joe Biden eras.
