New Xiaomi YU7, the SUV that 'threatens' Tesla, will be launched this week

The Xiaomi YU7 will be unveiled on Thursday this week - June 26th. The Chinese electric car is the second from the tech brand - which aims to compete with established manufacturers. On that day, prices will be announced and orders will open.

According to Reuters, the date was announced on social media by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun - in a post on Weibo.

This is Xiaomi's first SUV and is considered a luxury vehicle. Its two HyperEngine V6s Plus electric motors deliver 680 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds. The top speed is 253 km/h.

The entry-level version (Standard) has a range of up to 853 km (CLTC cycle), thanks to a 96.3 kWh battery. The Xiaomi YU7 Pro with 96.3 kWh and the Max with 101.7 kWh, with all-wheel drive, have ranges of up to 760 km and 770 km, respectively. Charging from 10 to 80 percent can be done in 12 minutes, obtaining 620 km of charge in just a quarter of an hour.

The brakes on this Tesla competitor include four-piston Brembo fixed calipers, the suspension is double wishbone at the front and five independent links at the rear, with continuous damping control.

The electric SUV will, initially, only be sold in China.

The cabin is highly technological, with a Xiaomi HyperVision panoramic screen and remote control panel. The aim was to provide a system that replicates the sophistication of an aircraft cockpit. The brand's Dual-Zone Surround Luxury Cabin philosophy is followed.

The cargo capacity reaches 1,970 liters - 141 liters in the area where the engine would be in a combustion car and 678 liters of luggage space (which can be expanded to 1,758 liters). Passengers will find a luxurious and sporty interior, including a panoramic roof and three possible shades for the Nappa leather seats: Pine Gray, Coral Orange and Twilight Blue. The front seats include massage.

The hybrid steel and aluminum structure has been updated, increasing the car's safety in the event of collisions, in addition to the bulletproof coating already used in the SU7 Ultra.

The Xiaomi YU7 features the latest generation of the Nvidia Drive AGX Thor on-board computer platform and LiDAR - capable of identifying obstacles on the road more accurately at night. The entire range includes radar and cameras. Other technological features are the 5G parallel communication network, Dual Wi-Fi and three Bluetooth modules.

The car's design has been optimized from an aerodynamic point of view, with ten continuous airflow channels and 19 vents, a hollow spoiler and an active grille system, among other features. The YU7 is available in three colors: Emerald Green; Titanium Silver; and Lava Orange.
