Why football players don't want a high-end car from car companies as a gift

Why football players don't want a high-end car from car companies as a gift

Football teams, especially the largest in Europe and the world, typically have a wide range of sponsors who become their main sources of income. Companies of all kinds try to enter the sport to gain greater visibility and achieve greater sales success in the short and medium term, and the world of motorsports is no exception.

For many years now, it's been common for major automotive companies to focus on becoming one of the biggest sponsors of the most important teams at the club and national team levels. Why? Well, the goal is to gain customers , and what better way to do so than by joining an institution with thousands of fans around the world.

From there, the company must provide a financial contribution to the club to place its logo on the team's shirts, stadium, website, etc., and, in the case of car companies, they also typically provide the first-team players and coaching staff with a full fleet of their latest-model cars .

What's the problem?

The company, naturally, will provide its most iconic models to the stars of the sport so that fans will notice them, be tempted, and purchase a model with the same characteristics. Normally, the brand will provide two or three models so players can choose and keep their favorite.

What was the problem with some brands? Players must keep the vehicles they received at the beginning of the season, regardless of whether they liked them or not, as agreed between Real Madrid and Audi during their partnership.

Discomfort and obligation to buy it

Despite being a very delicate agreement due to the financial implications, some players don't take it seriously and flout the contract's "rules ." Many of them aren't happy with the model the company offers them and travel to training and matches in another of their own cars.

For this reason, Real Madrid, back in the day, required its players to attend official club events in their sponsor's brand vehicle and comply with internal regulations, otherwise they would have to pay a fine for breaking them. Curiously, one of the biggest payers for violating the code was Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he gladly paid the fine to be comfortable and show off his high-end vehicles.
