Toyota launches its camper alternatives to the popular Volkswagen California and Caddy: they have a functional design, extensive equipment, and competitive prices.

Toyota launches its camper alternatives to the popular Volkswagen California and Caddy: they have a functional design, extensive equipment, and competitive prices.

In a segment where the Volkswagen California has been, and still is, the king, an alternative arrives that promises to shake up the compact family camper market: Toyota launches its new Proace Verso Camper and Proace City Verso MiniCamper. Based on vans, these two models are designed by Tinkervan to embrace the nomadic spirit without sacrificing comfort and everyday use.

This isn't the first batch of camper vans to come from Toyota, which has once again placed its trust in the Tinkervan camper, as has the Stellantis group. Logical, considering the relationship between the Japanese firm and the French group's sales representatives. In this new attempt to dethrone the Bulli , price will be the most important argument, but so will the wide range of possibilities.

Both the Toyota Proace Verso Camper and the City Verso MiniCamper were born with a clear mission: to offer freedom of movement and an authentic travel experience in a vehicle for everyday use. After all, both models can be your everyday car and later become a campervan. Of course, they come with the backing of a mainstream brand that guarantees a service network and reliability.

Personalization is an important detail, given that, with two sizes and different trim levels, these campers are perfect for both couples' getaways and family vacations. Unlike other models in the segment, Toyota doesn't limit itself to a basic version: it offers up to four trim levels: Outfun, Nomad, Nomad Plus, and Nomad Plus Home, the latter only available on the Proace Verso.

However, both the small and large models share the following equipment: indoor and outdoor table, auxiliary battery (100 Ah for the Proace Verso and 80 Ah for the City), two 12 V sockets plus two USB sockets, a double USB socket, three LED lights and interior curtains.

The Toyota Proace Verso Camper is offered in two body sizes (L1 and L2) and two diesel engines, 145 and 180 hp, with manual or automatic transmission. The Proace City Verso MiniCAMPER, meanwhile, is a more compact option. Its 130 hp diesel engine, combined with a well-appointed interior, makes it a great alternative to the Caddy.

The Toyota camper range is structured in several trim levels, designed for different types of travelers and needs. From those new to the camper world to those looking for a complete camper conversion with every luxury detail. The Outfan version is the entry-level version to the camper world and is designed for those who prioritize practicality and simplicity, without sacrificing the essentials for travel. It includes a folding double bed (1.15 x 1.90 m in the City Verso and 1.58 x 2.00 m in the Proace Verso), a 10-liter shower in the MiniCAMPER or a 12-liter shower in the CAMPER, a mattress and support frame, a removable sliding tray in the trunk, and basic camping furniture.

The Nomad version features a front-opening pop-up roof, reaching up to 2.5 meters in the Proace Verso and 2.4 meters in the City Verso. It also offers a second upper bed measuring 1.30 x 2 meters in the Verso and 1.05 x 1.95 meters in the City. This version also includes a bed seat with a drawer, raised floor on guides, Isofix anchor points, panoramic windows with mosquito nets, a reading light, and a more spacious interior layout.

The Nomad Plus trim level is the most comprehensive, with auxiliary diesel heating, an additional external battery for greater energy autonomy, and a programming system. It also includes a lift kit and more USB ports so you can connect as a digital nomad.

Without a doubt, one of Toyota's strong points is its price and reliability. The entry-level Outfan versions are available from €34,427 for the Proace Verso Camper, and, interestingly, the City Verso Minicamper is slightly more expensive, starting at €37,446.
