The Red Bull driver , nicknamed " Mad" Verstappen, was also the star of the race. Max" had a flawless weekend by taking pole position position on Saturday and his third win of the season on Sunday . Averaging 250.706 km/h over the 53 laps, Verstappen surpassed Michael Schumacher's record of 247.586 km/h in 2003.

Verstappen's win overshadowed the controversy that arose within the McLaren team. Drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris became embroiled in a tense moment when Piastri was ordered to cede his position to Norris . The team made this decision due to a slow pit stop by Norris, which jeopardized their championship aspirations. The action reduced Piastri's lead over Norris in the drivers' championship from 34 to 31 points. This team order did not go down well with Piastri, sparking debate about the team's strategy.
