The 2025 United States GP kicks off in Sprint format

The 2025 United States GP kicks off in Sprint format

The Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, is getting ready to host one of the most anticipated dates on the Formula 1 calendar: the 2025 United States Grand Prix , which this year will once again feature a Sprint format and extreme weather conditions that will test both drivers and teams.

With a length of 5,513 kilometers and 20 curves, the route designed by the German Hermann Tilke, is considered One of the most spectacular in the championship, with wide overtaking areas, uneven terrain, and an atmosphere that attracts thousands of fans every year.

Track action will begin this Friday, October 17, with the only free practice session at 11:30 a.m., followed by Sprint Qualifying at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, October 18, the Sprint Race will be held at 11:00 a.m., while Grand Prix qualifying will take place at 3:00 p.m. Finally, the main race will be held on Sunday, October 19, at 1:00 p.m. (Central Mexico Time).

According to projections, McLaren is the favorite to dominate the weekend, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris the main contenders for pole position. World champion Max Verstappen also appears to be a strong contender, while Ferrari and Mercedes will be looking to stay in the fight for the podium.

However, the focus will not only be on the competition. The FIA issued an extreme heat alert after the Meteorological Service predicted temperatures that could exceed 31 degrees Celsius during the races. This measure activates the thermal safety protocols implemented following the incidents at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, where several drivers suffered dehydration and exhaustion.

Teams will be able to opt for cooling vests or add an additional 0.5 kilos of ballast if they don't use them. This innovation aims to reduce the impact of heat, although some drivers have indicated that the system still requires improvements.

With high temperatures, a Sprint format, and a close fight for championship dominance, the United States Grand Prix promises an intense weekend on and off the track.
