Operation Exit 2025: 4.7 million trips will mark the start of summer on Spanish roads.

The first major exit operation of the summer begins this Friday, starting at 3:00 p.m. The General Directorate of Traffic ( DGT ) forecasts intense traffic on Spanish roads, with an estimated 4.7 million road trips by midnight on Sunday, July 6. This kicks off a summer season that promises record-breaking travel figures across the country. The DGT forecasts for July are 47.9 million intercity road trips , with a total that could exceed 100 million trips throughout the summer period.
The peak hours of congestion are expected this Friday afternoon, between 4:00 PM and 11:00 PM , with heavy traffic leaving the main cities and on routes to the main tourist areas. On Saturday, especially between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM , and on Sunday morning, heavy traffic will continue. On Sunday afternoon, the return traffic will cause the greatest traffic problems from the coastal areas to the major urban centers.
Special DGT deviceTo cope with this volume of traffic and ensure safety, the DGT has deployed all its human and technical resources. This includes fixed and mobile speed cameras , helicopters , drones , cameras , and unmarked vans to monitor mobile phone use and seatbelt use. Additionally, reversible lanes and additional cones will be created during peak hours, roadworks will be halted, sporting events and other events will be restricted, and truck traffic will be restricted.
Motorcyclist safety is one of the main concerns of the Ministry of the Interior and the DGT (Directorate-General for Traffic), following last summer's tragic death toll, in which 76 motorcyclists died (more than one a day), the highest figure in the last decade. Focus has also been placed on other risks such as road departures, distracted driving, accidents, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
