Mechanic Juan José explains why a car ages in the city: "It's due to load and engine strain."

The official @talleresebenezer account on TikTok Spain has explained why cars age "faster" if they drive daily in the city rather than on the highway. The video's protagonist stated that cars suffer "greater wear and tear" due to the constant "strain of the engine."
"Why does a vehicle that always drives in the city have more wear than on the highway?", the user began in the post on his TikTok profile, before drawing a table on a blackboard and listing the different revolutions that a car usually goes to while driving in the city and on the highway .
Why do cars suffer more wear in the city?Mechanic Juan José then performed the necessary math, analyzed the table, and ultimately concluded that the vehicle's engine revs "five times faster" when driving in the city than on the highway, after traveling a distance of 100 kilometers.
"We're seeing that, to travel 100 kilometers, in fifth gear we covered this distance with just 150,000 revolutions in one hour, that is, the engine has made 150,000 revolutions. However, if we go to first gear, for example, the engine has made 750,000 revolutions in five hours to travel 100 kilometers," added the video's protagonist.
For this reason, and after taking these previous figures as a reference, Juan José assures that the vehicle "will have five times more wear if it is driven in the city": "This car, in the city, will have five times more wear than if you drive on the highway ",
Lower consumptionOn the other hand, driving on the road will save us more fuel . "When we're driving on the road, we have the car stabilize the speed at the tip of the throttle... that's why consumption drops , because it greatly increases the distance. We'll have very low consumption because it won't constantly need that amount of fuel and engine pressure to reach speed," the user emphasizes.
However, this situation is quite the opposite if we move around the city with the aforementioned car: "In the city, we will go from first to second, from second to third, and so on, revving the car , going up and down gears. Acceleration, braking, stops... everything is based on the load and effort of the engine. Turbo pressure, fuel injection, load and weight on the engine... Therefore, the car will have much less wear on the road and its handling will be much smoother than in the city, where we will have to constantly play with the revolutions."
