Hundreds of incidents occur on Spain's roads. Every day, officers stop thousands of drivers who are committing some type of violation . This is what happened on a road in Navarre . The Regional Police reported the behavior of an ambulance driver after he committed several irresponsible acts behind the wheel in the municipality of Murchante .
The officers observed this ambulance driving at high speed, without using its hazard lights and failing to maintain a safe distance. This wasn't all; after a drug check, they also discovered the driver was under the influence of hashish and cocaine.
The incident occurred while a Foral Police patrol was driving in an unmarked car through this Navarrese municipality. At that moment, they observed an ambulance traveling at high speed, approximately 130 km/h (80 mph) on a 90 km/h stretch , at a junction between the N-121-C road and the AP-68 motorway. The vehicle was not using its hazard lights and was heading toward the officers.
When the ambulance approached the unmarked car, it got dangerously close, failing to maintain a safe distance, and began to use its speeding lights until it finally overtook , violating the speed limit. A chase ensued until the Foral Police were able to stop the driver.
After being stopped, the driver admitted to officers that he wasn't responding to an emergency. The police decided to administer a drug and alcohol test. They found that the driver of the medical vehicle tested positive for THC (cannabis) and cocaine . Officers also seized a small amount of these two drugs that he was carrying.
The driver was charged with all of these offenses, but also for negligent driving and possession of narcotics. The total fine, combined, amounted to 2,000 euros . Not only that, but he will also lose up to ten points on his driver's license . The seriousness of all these violations reminds drivers of the risks involved in driving without complying with all road safety requirements.
