Europe's popular electric car chargers are known to be the most expensive.

Europe's popular electric car chargers are known to be the most expensive.

The emergence of electric cars has, in turn, led to the creation of countless charging stations throughout Spain and other European countries. Currently, there are several brands and companies that offer this important service to users who have purchased a vehicle with these characteristics, such as Ionity .

According to the company itself, which was founded in 2017, this brand is a "European network of public charging stations" that offers its users and customers "even faster charging" than the average company due to "greater power."

How did 'Ionity' come about?

This company was created after the merger of several automotive companies: the Volkswagen Group , including Audi and Porsche, BMW, Ford, and Daimler negotiate daily to reach various agreements with other companies to facilitate the "implementation of charging infrastructure in different locations" on the old continent.

On the other hand, it should be noted that it has various types of chargers for electric cars, and that they are used at different service stations to offer a premium service: Combo 2 or CCS fast charging, two elements compatible with most of these cars, and that can reach a power of 350 kW, that is, up to seven times faster than an average charger.

How many stations are there in Europe and Spain?

Since its creation, Ionity surpassed 250 charging stations in 2020, with more under construction. Germany, with 88, France, with 45, Sweden, with 18, and Austria and Norway, with 15, are the countries with the highest number of devices installed on their roads. In Spain, there are currently a total of 70 high-speed charging stations , with another 14 to be added.

However, in the medium term, and according to the company itself, the goal is to grow and "offer electric vehicle drivers the possibility of traveling long distances , providing them with a broad, high-quality network that attracts our customers" throughout Europe.

Why are they considered the most expensive in Europe?

On June 6, Ionity announced its new rates for charging electric cars at its various service points. The standard rate is 65 cents per kWh for drivers who are not subscribed to the company, while for the brand's premium customers it will be 45 cents per kWh. However, the cost to become a regular user will be €11.99 per month.
