Chinese motorcycles are beginning to overtake established models like Honda and BMW on the list of best-selling models in Spain.

The National Association of Two-Wheeled Companies (Anesdor) list of the best-selling models in our market during the first five months of the year is usually the best indicator of the sector's health and, above all, of the preferences of new users, as this period is traditionally the most commercially active and always sets the trend for the rest of the season.

This year's sale is especially significant as it clearly reflects the extent to which the arrival of new Chinese factories is already affecting traditional brands. The obvious consequence is the appearance of models—until now completely new, as they have recently arrived in stores—which, in most cases, are taking the place of some of the regulars from recent years.

The case of mid-displacement scooters and large Adventure models is especially significant, as two newcomers have dethroned—at least temporarily—the respective benchmark models of two market kings, Honda and BMW.

In any case, as we wait to see the evolution at the end of the year, one thing remains unchanged: the near-total dominance of scooters—with a couple of notable exceptions—in the top 15 positions in the rankings.

We can't call it a surprise because although the Honda PCX used to be the usual occupant of the top spot in this segment, the Yamaha scooter was always just a few units behind. That the Nmax has become the best-selling option in these five months seems almost a natural succession. Its price is 3,599 euros.

Without a doubt, one of the most striking examples is this Zontes 368 G, which has dared to take on the almighty Honda ADV 350, which was, incidentally, the pioneer of the "Crossover" concept, which the Chinese model also champions. But it doesn't end there, because the 368 G also ranks as the third best-selling model overall. It costs 5,592 euros.

Once again, another Zontes takes pride of place among the best-sellers, making it clear that the Tayo Group brand must be doing something right. This beautiful urban neocustom has become—also surprisingly—the leading 1/8-liter motorcycle in the last five months. Its price tag stands at €3,087.

There have been no significant changes here. Kawasaki's naked bike hasn't allowed itself to be criticized as the best-selling large-displacement road bike for many years, and the Kobe brand is helping it by continually updating and improving it to maintain that perfect blend of aggressiveness, four-cylinder performance, and functionality that is the secret of its success. The Z900 is a safe bet whose commercial end is still a long way off. Its price is 10,325 euros.

With Grupo Motos Bordoy's beautiful trail bike, there's no need to talk about "overtaking" it, as it has long been the leader in its segment. The recent model refresh—which has further improved its equipment in the EVO version—has undoubtedly benefited this indestructible Macbor, which continues to occupy the top spot on the list. It offers one of the best value for money in its segment, in addition to Grupo Bordoy's proven excellent after-sales service. It costs 3,499 euros.

This is where the surprise comes in, because it turns out that until a few months ago, the place of honor in this category was mercilessly and seemingly unchallenged by the BMW R1300 GS. The fact that Voge has been able to snatch the top spot on the podium—albeit temporarily, pending the Bayerische response—is a very clear indication that times have changed. Its good price, performance, and electronic catalog have been the key to this Bastille takeover of the segment. When the brand announced that its DSX was intended to challenge the GS and play in the big league, many faces smiled mockingly. Now it's clear that Voge should be taken very seriously. Its price is 9,192 euros.

One day, at the entrance to Yamaha's headquarters in Iwata, they'll have to erect a monument to their MTs, as they're delivering exceptional sales results for the Japanese manufacturer in all engine sizes. The MT 125's first position in the ranking is also no surprise, as it's usually its top ranking in its segment. The latest version is a condensed catalog of technology. It costs 5,499 euros.

What was said about the "smallest" of the family also applies to the middleweight of the MT family, a motorcycle that since its launch, the MT-07, has consistently been among the best-selling in Europe. The basis of its success lies in its aggressive "Manga" aesthetic, its lightness, its agility, and the reliability and good performance of its twin-cylinder engine. This year's model also includes smartphone connectivity and an extensive electronic catalog and is available in a version with an automatic transmission. Its price is 7,799 euros.
