A new brand of Chinese cars arrives with the legacy of a traditional British company: what they are and how much they cost.

This year will be remembered as the most prolific for the arrival of new brands and the launch of models from China. In addition to the confirmed arrival of BYD , the arrival of MG , a company with British origins and traditions, is also underway.

MG Motor officially confirmed its arrival in the Argentine market, thus expanding its presence in Latin America. The European-born brand, with over 100 years of history, will launch its brand in the country through an agreement with Eximar, the importer that also represents Volvo, Land Rover, and Jaguar in the country.

Founded in 1924, Morris Garage was known for its convertible cars and distinct British heritage . Since 2007, MG Motor has become a subsidiary of SAIC, one of the largest groups in the Chinese automotive industry.

"Argentina represents a unique opportunity to offer vehicles that combine highly attractive design with the most advanced technology, including non-plug-in hybrid technologies that are much more environmentally friendly, at very affordable prices for Argentines," said Felipe Palma, executive of SAIC Motor South America.

"This alliance allows us to bring to the local market a brand with more than 100 years of history, recognized worldwide for its innovation and quality. We are confident that MG vehicles will be well received by Argentine consumers, who seek safety, advanced technology, attractive design, extended warranty, and, above all, very affordable prices," said Federico Pieruzini, president of Eximar.

For its launch in the Argentine market, MG has planned a series of launches that reflect the company's current status but also echo its history. However, the four models that will initially arrive are all electrified.

The MG3 is a 5-door compact that will be the most affordable in the range. It comes with hybrid technology that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor for a combined power output of 195 hp. It also allows for a fuel consumption of 4.4 L/100 km. It will start at $23,500.

This model will be accompanied by the ZS , a compact SUV measuring just under 4.5 meters long with which it shares the same powertrain and will be the brand's second most affordable option in the local market. Its retail price starts at $27,500.

The other two initial options will be battery-powered cars. One of them is the MG4 , a hatchback nearly 4.3 meters long and with a striking design. Its price will be around $31,700.

The fourth option echoes the brand's tradition of building convertible models but with a focus on modern mobility. The Cyberster is an electric roadster that represents the company's current pinnacle. Its retail price will be $127,000.

The first three models described arrive in the country with the government-promoted tariff-free import benefit for electric cars. The sports car, due to its high value, did not qualify for this benefit.

This way, we can find out how many units MG will bring to the country, since the orders have been published. Thus, it is known that it requested to import 2,209 units of the ZS, 1,400 of the MG3, and 165 of the MG4.

In addition, Eximar already has an official network of 10 dealerships ready, with presence in Buenos Aires (Autovisiones and Coral Cars), Pilar (Tolosa), Quilmes (Sport Cars), Avellaneda (Nave Motors), Mar del Plata (Giama), Rosario (Giorgi), Córdoba (Tagle), Tucumán (Yuhmak) and Catamarca (Essor).
