Montezemolo joins the board of directors of McLaren holding

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo goes to McLaren . The news comes without an official statement and, for now, without statements from the interested parties but has been confirmed by documents published in the Companies House register of the United Kingdom. From 27 June 2025, in fact, Montezemolo has assumed the role of " Director " of McLaren Group Holdings Limited , a company that counts McLaren Automotive among its subsidiaries. The manager will therefore join the Board of Directors of the holding company. Let's take stock of this surprising news that is inevitably destined to characterize the chronicles of the world of motors, especially with regards to Formula 1 and motorsport, over the next few weeks.

A great return

The news represents a great return for Montezemolo, who led Ferrari from 1991 until 2014 , when the handover took place with Sergio Marchionne. The manager, who recently commented on the situation of car production in Italy , was one of the great protagonists of the victories of the Maranello company in Formula 1 and is now linked to one of the historical rivals of the Italian company, especially in the years of the challenges between Schumacher and Hakkinen. It remains to be seen what his actual role will be and how Montezemolo, who is now 78 years old, will be involved in the activities of the new holding. There are many hypotheses.

The McLaren brand is clearly a very strong brand for the automotive sector but it needs a new strategy, in order to be able to sustain significant growth in the road-going supercar sector. Ansa published a brief statement from Montezemolo who commented: “ My heart is and will always remain red, I have become a member of the board of directors of McLaren Automotive which produces road cars, and is not involved in Formula 1. ”

An ambitious project

McLaren Group Holdings Limited was recently founded by CYVN Holdings (Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund) which acquired the automotive section of McLaren and has a stake in the Racing division. The new holding company, among its activities, also has the task of supervising the activity of McLaren Automotive which deals with the development of high-performance sports cars, such as the new hypercar presented in recent days. From the documents appeared in the Companies House register, in addition to Montezemolo, there are nine other managers (Mariam Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Jassem Mohamed Obaid Bu Ataba Alzaabi, Nicholas Paul Collins, Michel Marie Alain Combes, Torsten Muller-Otvos, Kaj-Erik Relander, Pierre-Yves Claude Ernest Roussel and Paul Steven Walsh) who, in various capacities, will regulate the activities of the holding.
