In Portugal, Alex Marquez also takes the pre-qualifying spot. Bagnaia and Bezzecchi make it to Q2.
Alex Marquez leads the way once again in Portugal. After being fastest in FP1, the Gresini Ducati rider also led pre-qualifying at Portimao, posting the best lap of the afternoon session with an excellent 1'37.974. The Spaniard also impressed with his pace, thanks to an exceptional fourth sector. His rivals, however, aren't far behind, as demonstrated by a resurgent Francesco Bagnaia after his morning's difficulties. The Lenovo Ducati rider finished second, just 30 thousandths behind Marquez. Behind him was Pedro Acosta: the Spaniard from the KTM team was just 0.88 seconds behind.
Marco Bezzecchi secured a strong fourth place. The Aprilia rider climbs the timesheets after a disappointing first half of the session, looking to secure a time attack. The Italian leads the way, ahead of Joan Mir, the top Honda rider with fifth place. Next up is Johann Zarco, aboard the LCR RC213V. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished seventh, ahead of Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Ducati) and Pol Espargaro (Tech3 KTM). Ai Ogura, tenth on the Aprilia Trackhouse, secures the final direct qualification for tomorrow's Q2. Luca Marini, eleventh and the first of those excluded, was left out: the Italian will attempt to secure a spot in the second qualifying phase during Q1, a session in which all the Yamahas will also participate. The best rider for the Japanese brand is Fabio Quartararo, thirteenth, also behind Franco Morbidelli. Nicolò Bulega performed well. The Italian, replacing Marc Marquez on the Ducati Lenovo, finished his first MotoGP pre-qualifying session with the seventeenth fastest time.
