Digital Cid arrives on July 1st: the friendly report is also done online

Small revolution on the insurance front. From next July 1st, in fact, the digital Cai form will become operational, the Friendly Incident Report that the owners of vehicles involved in a road accident must present to their insurance company.

This is no small development, considering that in 2024, 1.8 million road accidents were recorded in Italy, 80% of which were settled through the direct compensation system.

This is recalled by Aiped, the Italian Association of Damage Appraisers, which participated in the public consultation launched on the topic by Ivass. "From 1 July 2025, the digital version of the Cai (formerly Cid) form will be active throughout the country: insurance companies will have to guarantee their customers the possibility of filling out the document via apps or websites. This means that in the event of an accident, motorists will be able to fill out the declaration from their smartphone or tablet and PC, entering the place, date, license plate of the vehicles involved, the dynamics of the accident and photographs. To make the form valid, however, a digital signature via Spid or Cie will be necessary" - recalls Aiped.

"The introduction of the digital CAI form can certainly improve the quality of the data collected, reduce material errors and facilitate the transmission of documents. However, it does not have a significant impact on the opening of the claim alone, which is already rapid and generally occurs within 24-48 hours of receiving the report - comments the president of Aiped, Luigi Mercurio - It is important to underline, however, that the traditional paper CAI form will not be retired at all, and companies will be obliged to always offer policyholders the choice between the digital document and the pre-printed one. This is because Ivass has accepted the objections presented by Aiped, which pointed out that users who are not accustomed to digital tools would be penalised by the innovation".
