Cmt Compositi: The Italian Carbon Fiber That Pushes Motorcycles to the Top

Cmt Compositi: The Italian Carbon Fiber That Pushes Motorcycles to the Top

In the Roero hills, in the province of Cuneo, there is a fast-growing Italian company that, in a relatively short period of time, has built a strong reputation in the motorcycle aftermarket scene. And it has done so by using a formula that is as simple as it is effective: passion for racing, innovation and artisan quality. It is called Cmt Compositi and since 2011 it has been producing carbon fiber components for both road and racing motorcycles, thus bringing its Made in Italy identity to an increasingly globalized sector besieged by Eastern competition. In any case, what distinguishes Cmt from the others is first and foremost a range of products with a technological level well above average, each of which represents a perfect synthesis between functionality and beauty created with rare dedication.

Behind every component signed by Cmt there is a refined production process entirely made in Italy, in the production site in Bra (Cn) where there is also the research and development department. The use of high quality composite materials , such as carbon and kevlar pre-impregnated with epoxy resins (selected based on the structural and aesthetic needs of each piece), is the starting point. Each phase of the process passes through a tested alchemy between high technology and manual skill : from the development of the technical drawings to the computerized cutting of the laminates (entrusted to numerically controlled plotters of maximum precision) up to the delicate phase of lamination. The latter is performed strictly by hand by specialized operators, who orient the fibers in order to maximize resistance and performance .

The heart of the process is autoclave polymerization , a process borrowed from the aerospace industry that allows for the production of ultra-light, rigid and flawless products, thus better able to withstand the most extreme stresses. The final finishing phase closes the dance, which involves manual polishing followed by meticulous quality control and careful packaging . No detail is therefore left to chance to ensure that each piece is ready to face the challenges of the track or embellish the bike of an enthusiast. Cmt, in practice, resolutely focuses on precision craftsmanship supported by the most advanced technologies, avoiding sacrificing quality on the altar of mass production.

The link between Cmt Compositi and competitions is not a mere marketing exercise, but a real corporate philosophy. Since its origins, the brand has chosen to put its products to the test on the most demanding race tracks in the world, establishing technical partnerships with some of the most competitive teams around. This is the case of the partnership with the Honda Racing RedMoto team, protagonist in the Enduro World Championship and in the national one, which also fields the multi-titled Thomas Oldrati . Cmt works closely with them to develop components capable of resisting mud, falls and all the most extreme challenges imposed by modern enduro.

To this already prestigious collaboration, others are added with several important motorsport entities, divided into various fields. Among these, noteworthy are the one with the Gazza Racing Factory Team specializing in Supermoto, the Vr46 Flat Track team with which Valentino Rossi cultivates new dirt talents, from the Gebben Yamaha team involved in the Mxgp world championship, the Mb Team Honda active in Supercross and also the Go Eleven Team of the Superbike World Championship , which this year lines up Andrea Iannone on the grid astride a Ducati. Cmt's commitment to competitions therefore varies on various fronts, from dirt to track, but the ultimate goal is always the same: to exploit the most authentic testing ground for its technical solutions in order to constantly improve its proposal for customers.

A look towards the future is another winning feature of Cmt Compositi, also regularly reiterated by a constantly updated product range , and for 2025 the Piedmontese company has already raised the curtain on a series of decidedly intriguing innovations. Attention is drawn to the series of racing components specifically developed for the new Ducati Desmo 450 Mx , the bike with which the renowned Bologna manufacturer made its entrance into the motocross arena. The offer has also been expanded for two of the undisputed queens of global off-road , the powerful BMW R 1300 Gs and the snappy Yamaha Ténéré 700 , two models with different engine sizes and equal prestige for which Cmt has developed ad hoc components capable of enhancing their charm and resistance.

Looking to the future does not mean neglecting the past and Cmt Compositi does not neglect nostalgics and vintage enthusiasts. A concrete example of this approach is the fresh introduction of a range of products dedicated to the legendary Honda Cr 250/500 , off-road icons of the 80s and 90s ready to relaunch themselves with a new carbon skin. Among the latest innovations there are also components to lighten and make the Ducati Hypermono 698 even more futuristic and for the Yamaha Yz 125 and Yz 250 (including tanks and airboxes for those who compete at the highest levels). Last but not least , we cannot fail to mention the Carbon Edition of the Honda Crf 250 and Crf 450 , created in collaboration with RedMoto to create an aesthetic and technical package dedicated to uncompromising performance . Every piece that leaves the laboratories in Bra is the result of a short and controlled supply chain where quality is the absolute cornerstone: this is why every single component signed by Cmt Compositi exudes the passion and pride of this small Italian excellence.

To learn more about Cmt Compositi and its origins we spoke to Enrico Tibaldi , founder, owner and current helmsman of the company. And his description of how it all began is already indicative of the 'spirit' of his enterprise: "I am very proud to be able to say that our company is receiving the best appreciation from the large public of enthusiasts - he confided to us - which has now become international. If I think back to the beginning of our history, I remember when Lorenzo Bergesio , who later became a partner, and I were just friends who shared our passion for motorcycles, continually modifying our mopeds. One day we went together to a dealer, Honda Amerio in Ceva, and there was a racing bike there that had problems with autonomy, fuel, that couldn't finish races. That's when the 'light bulb' went on: we went home and in the garage we started to build the first prototype of a tank with increased capacity. The problem was that we didn't know what material to choose to produce it. Plastic was obsolete and aluminum was heavy. A few days later another light bulb went on and carbon fiber entered our lives permanently. And We haven't stopped since that day."

As time went by, Cmt Compositi continued to grow, going through various phases of a market, that of the motorcycle aftermarket , never lacking in challenges: "Today things have changed a lot - observed Tibaldi - but we have many collaborators at our side who have embraced the cause of Cmt Compositi and dedicate their time to improving themselves in a unique profession, thus allowing us to export the true Made in Italy throughout the world. In order to be able to grow continuously, from this year we have a new production facility available, adjacent to the current one, built following the best quality standards, mandatory to be able to excel in what we do. The future that lies ahead will be full of new features and our goal is to expand our range of special products as much as possible, managing to satisfy even the most particular requests, with the hope of becoming the point of reference for every motorcycle enthusiast throughout the world."
