Berlin E-Prix: Mitch Evans triumphs in Race 1 ahead of Wehrlein and Mortara

Mitch Evans wins the first race of the Berlin Formula E weekend at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit . The Jaguar driver made the most of the pole position he earned this morning, dominating the still-wet concrete for all 41 laps, two more than scheduled and added after the safety car. The New Zealander performed an excellent strategy, attempting to break away by immediately switching to attack mode and choosing to perform the mandatory pit boost on lap 25, losing first place but immediately managing to rejoin in fourth. Pascal Wehrlein 's Porsche took second place. The German, who started from ninth on the grid following a penalty imposed by the race directors after colliding with his teammate during the first free practice session, made a remarkable comeback, consistently finding himself behind Evans along with his teammate Antonio Felix Da Costa . The Portuguese driver from the Stuttgart-based manufacturer finished third, but a five-second penalty relegated him to tenth, leaving room for the Mahindra of Edoardo Mortara . Taylor Barnard 's McLaren finished fourth, ahead of Nick Cassidy 's Jaguar and Maximilian Günther 's DS. Sébastien Buemi 's Envision finished seventh, Nico Müller 's Andretti eighth, and Dan Ticktum 's Cupra Kiro ninth.

Sam Bird 's McLaren, eleventh, leads Stoffel Vandoorne 's Maserati and Robin Frijns ' Envision. Jake Hughes ' Maserati finishes fourteenth, followed by Sette Camara , Maloney , Drugovich , and Di Grassi . Oliver Rowland is a different story, only nineteenth. The championship leader misses out on his first match point of the race weekend. He plays his cards well, with excellent moves that allow him to reach the top positions, only to then abandon the race, forced to retire on lap 35 due to a problem with his car following contact with Jake Hughes' Maserati. The Nissan driver has everything to do again, and the title has been postponed, at least for now. Vergne closes the gap, with Beckmann and Dennis out of contention.
