Top 5 fastest selling second hand electric cars unveiled - from Tesla to MG

The top five fastest-selling second-hand electric cars have been unveiled, with Tesla unsurprisingly topping the list. Data from AutoTrader shows the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling second hand model, proving the American firm is still a major market leader.
It comes as demand for second-hand electric vehicles is on the up, with consumers now making a move into the market. Data from the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) shows the UK’s second-hand vehicle leasing market has soared.Figures show a 166% year-on-year increase in used car contracts, with ex-fleet electric vehicles performing well.

Toby Poston, chief executive at BVRLA: “The used vehicle market is four times the size of new. It underpins the entire zero-emission ecosystem and is the single biggest factor that could undermine the UK’s transition.
“It needs stability to succeed. By supporting second and third owners, we also support the first. In doing so we can protect value throughout the vehicle’s life, making EVs affordable to more households and ensuring sustainability isn’t just environmental but economic.”
According to AutoTrader, the Tesla Model Y is the fastest-selling second-hand EV with models three to five years old typically leaving forecourts within 11 days of being put up for sale.
The plucky Volkswagen ID.3 is next, with models between three and five years old taking just 14 days to find a buyer.
The Nissan LEAF, one of the most affordable second-hand vehicles on the market, finished third with AutoTrader claiming cars sell within just 15,5 days.
The Tesla Model 3 was next, with models finding new owners within just 16 days followed by the MG HS SUV, which tended to be snapped up around 17 days after being listed.
The Toyota Yaris, Vauxhall Corsa, and Hyundai Tucson were close to the top 10, with all vehicles selling between 18 and 19 days after being listed.
Fiona Howarth, CEO at Octopus Electric Vehicles: “It’s amazing to see how quickly the EV market has evolved. When we first introduced used EVs on salary sacrifice, the goal was simple; make clean driving accessible to more people. Now, that’s exactly what’s happening.
“EVs are built to last, with batteries holding their power year after year. Many drivers are used to buying second-hand, so giving them the same confidence and support as new-car owners is key to building a fair, thriving electric market.”
