The victory was decided by three thousandths of a second

This Sunday, June 8th, will remain etched in the memory of 21-year-old Deniz Öncü. The Turkish rider secured the first victory of his Moto2 career on a KTM Ajo. This Aragon Grand Prix will also go down in motorcycling history. Not only because it was the first time a Turk had won a motorcycle race.
In Spain, Deniz Öncü overtook Brazilian Diogo Moreira (Italtrans)—who started from pole position—on the final straight, not without scraping the fairing of the opposing bike. At the finish line, the two riders were separated by just three thousandths of a second. The closest finish in Moto2 history.

Öncü (21 years old) thus secured his first victory in Moto2. Despite this success, the Turk is only ranked 7th in the riders' standings, 56 points behind the leader, Manuel Gonzalez (Dynavolt Intact).
The narrow margin this Sunday, June 8, at Motorland is not the absolute record on the circuit. In MotoGP, at the 2006 Portuguese GP at Estoril, Toni Elias beat Valentino Rossi by two thousandths of a second.
And the ultimate record, the one that will never be beaten if times remain set to the thousandth, dates back to 2004 in Qatar in Moto3. Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Devizioso were credited with exactly the same time. Lorenzo was declared the winner because he had set the fastest lap of the race.
