The electric cars with the longest range on the market and which can reduce their price with the financial aid of the Moves Plan.

The electric cars with the longest range on the market and which can reduce their price with the financial aid of the Moves Plan.

While price was previously the deciding factor when purchasing a car, those considering the switch to electric vehicles are now considering another factor: range. The fear of running out of battery power in the middle of a long journey, known as "range anxiety," continues to weigh heavily on the purchasing decision. Therefore, the distance an electric car can travel on a single charge has become almost as decisive as the cost of the vehicle.

The problem is that the range advertised by manufacturers is quite far from what is actually achieved on the road. According to an analysis by the OCU (National Automobile Association), the average difference between the official and actual figures is 15%, but in some models it can reach up to 27% . This deviation can translate into more than 100 kilometers less than promised, which is especially problematic on long journeys.

On this occasion, the consumer association has published a list of the electric models that offer the greatest real-life range, according to its tests. At the top of the list is the Audi A6 e-tron, with a total range of 590 kilometers (compared to 475 km on the highway).

It is followed by the Mercedes EQS (555 km total), the Volkswagen ID.7 with an 86 kWh battery (550 km), the Polestar 3 (530 km), and the 75 kWh Tesla Model 3 Long Range (520 km). All of them exceed the 500-kilometer barrier per charge, a threshold that until recently was only within reach of very few models.

To make it easier for buyers to choose, the OCU (Spanish Automobile Association) has broken down its ranking into several categories based on vehicle price. These include models that qualify for the Moves III Plan , those that cost less than €40,000, and those that cost less than €30,000, which obviously also benefit from subsidies. In each range, the organization highlights the models with the best overall and on-road range, allowing for comparisons of features beyond price and tailored to different budgets.

Remember that the Moves III Plan grants can provide up to €7,000 in discounts if you hand in an old car for scrapping. This subsidy allows you to access models with good range at more competitive prices, provided their price does not exceed €54,450 including VAT, a prerequisite for benefiting from the program.

The OCU (Automobile Industry Association) specifies that, when compiling this ranking, it took into account an average fuel consumption 15% higher than the approved fuel consumption to introduce a realistic margin. In the case of road autonomy, it has been estimated to be equivalent to 70% of the official fuel consumption. Actual battery life varies depending on factors such as speed, road type, load transported, and air conditioning use, among others.
