The charging network in Spain exceeds 48,000 points, with a boom in high-power chargers.

The electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Spain continues to grow steadily, surpassing 48,070 operational points by August 31, 2025. According to data from the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (AEDIVE), this figure represents an increase of 5.92% since the end of 2024.

The most notable finding in this report is the strong growth in high-power charging stations. In the first eight months of the year, chargers ranging from 50 to 250 kW grew by 75.69%, while those exceeding 250 kW increased by 57.14%. Fast charging stations (ranging from 22 to 50 kW) also grew by 17.93% during this same period.

This rise in high-powered vehicles aligns with operators' goals of facilitating long-distance travel and offering a refueling experience similar to that of a traditional refueling station.

Arturo Pérez de Lucia, general manager of AEDIVE, emphasizes the "enormous investment and technological effort" made by operators, who are strengthening the deployment of infrastructure so that drivers can travel throughout the peninsula with complete confidence.

Regarding geographic distribution, the report confirms that Catalonia, Madrid, and Andalusia remain at the top, accounting for over 48% of all charging points in the country. These regions, with higher population and traffic densities, continue to be the main drivers of electric mobility adoption.

AEDIVE has implemented a new methodology for data collection, which now only counts charging points that are active and operational at the time of measurement.

This update, which incorporates European reference databases and big data techniques, seeks to provide more robust, reliable, and consistent information with international standards, offering a more accurate picture of the state of the charging network in Spain.
