Piastri reacts in the final free practice session of the Hungarian GP

Australian Formula 1 (F1) driver Oscar Piastri responded to the dominance displayed by his McLaren teammate Lando Norris in Friday's free practice session for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix , setting the fastest time in FP3: 1:14.916, ahead of the Briton, second by just 32 thousandths, and Monegasque Charles Leclerc (1:15.315), who is establishing himself as an alternative to the Woking team. This is how the rest of the drivers finished.
The McLarens' superiority at the Hungaroring was once again evident on this day, considering that in FP2 they were the only cars to break the 1:16 barrier, and on this occasion they challenged them again, adjusting their times to under 1:15.
Lewis Hamilton revived his Ferrari, setting a fourth-best time of 1:15.684, putting aside the problems he had encountered on the opening day and at times rubbing shoulders with the McLarens, who had the best times for much of the session. Andrea Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes finished fifth (1:15.745) and Fernando Alonso, who confirmed his positive expectations, finished sixth.
The Spaniard, despite missing FP1 due to back problems, had a very good feeling with the Aston Martin (1:15.794), as did his teammate, the British Lance Stroll (1:15.828).
In contrast, reigning F1 champion and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen continued to have particular doubts about the Hungaroring layout, after being investigated for throwing a towel onto the track, and finished free practice twelfth, with a time of 1:16.162.
Argentine Franco Colapinto also improved his performance, finishing 13th with a time of 1:16.247. A qualitative leap for the Buenos Aires native compared to Friday's afternoon practice session, where he was last in the session, even beating his teammate, Frenchman Pierre Gasly, by 0.323 seconds in this FP3 session.
For his part, Carlos Sainz showed a slight improvement with his Williams (14th with 1:16.442), although both he and the Thai Alex Albon (16th with 1:16.530) were only halfway to calibrating the package of improvements launched by the team for this Grand Prix in Hungarian territory.
Once the free practice sessions are over, qualifying will determine the final race grid this afternoon, starting at 4:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. GMT).
