Mitsubishi Grandis: the new family SUV from the Japanese brand "Made in Spain"

Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled the Grandis, its new family SUV designed specifically for the European market. It will also feature an important local signature: production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 at the Renault plant in Valladolid. With this launch, Mitsubishi expands its range and reinforces its commitment to manufacturing in Europe. The new Grandis will begin production in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will join the company's revamped vehicle lineup, led by the brand's flagship, the Outlander PHEV.

The new Grandis, whose name comes from Latin, meaning "large" and "impressive," was conceived as an ideal solution for young families seeking space, versatility, and efficiency. Its bold and confident exterior design incorporates Mitsubishi's signature Dynamic Shield, with a sleek, dynamic profile and a robust rear end with horizontal LED lights that convey strength.

“The C-SUV segment is the largest in Europe, and with the Eclipse Cross (BEV) and the new Grandis, we will dramatically increase our market coverage by covering a wide price range, a full lineup of electrified vehicles, and the latest ADAS technology and connectivity,” said Frank Krol, President and Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors Europe, during the model presentation. “The Grandis is the perfect solution for young families, offering space, versatility, the latest technology in an affordable package, and our new extended 8-year warranty.”

Inside, the Grandis combines practicality with a high level of connectivity and quality. Meticulous attention has been paid to detail, with the use of high-quality materials and a design that prioritizes comfort. Its electrochromic glass roof stands out, allowing opacity to be adjusted at the touch of a button, creating a feeling of spaciousness and light. Space is a priority, with sliding rear seats that expand the trunk capacity to 1,455 liters with the seats reclined.

The Grandis offers two powertrain options: micro-hybrid (MHEV) and full hybrid (HEV). The MHEV variant features a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 140 hp. The HEV version combines a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors for a total power output of 160 hp, optimizing fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions. This intelligent hybrid system can operate up to 80% of the time in all-electric mode in urban environments, with fuel savings of up to 40%.

The overall efficiency of the drivetrain means that even at higher speeds, once the new Grandis leaves the city behind, electric driving is possible at speeds of up to 70 km/h. And the combined drivetrain doesn't disappoint when it comes to performance: the compact SUV can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in approximately 8.5 seconds.

The range is complemented by the chassis technologies of the new Grandis. Built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-B platform, it combines a pseudo-MacPherson strut setup at the front and a semi-rigid suspension with shock absorbers at the rear, offering refinement and comfort both in the city and on long journeys.

The new Grandis offers drivers the opportunity to tailor the dynamics specifically to their needs to maximize comfort and enjoy the characteristics they desire through the Multi-Sense system. With SDA, the driver can switch between four different modes: fully customize the setup by selecting PERSO; minimize the environmental footprint with ECO mode; create the perfect balance with COMFORT mode; and increase driving pleasure, agility, and responsiveness with SPORT mode.

Safety is one of the top priorities of the new Japanese model, which incorporates a comprehensive suite of 20 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) technologies. These include everything from the MI-PILOT (Mitsubishi Intelligent - PILOT) system for long-distance travel assistance, to rear automatic emergency braking, a surround view monitor, and a parking assistant. The vehicle's reinforced structure, along with its eight airbags and pedestrian protection systems, guarantee maximum peace of mind.

In addition, the Grandis is fully prepared for the digital age with Google Built-In, offering access to Google Maps, Google Play, and the Google Assistant from its 10.4-inch infotainment screen. It's complemented by a Harman Kardon premium audio system and over-the-air (OTA) updates to keep the vehicle up-to-date. As a testament to its confidence in its quality, Mitsubishi offers an extended 8-year (or 160,000 km) warranty for the new Grandis, exceeding the market standard.
