Kia Ceed Tourer PHEV: We test an efficient plug-in hybrid, with and without a plug.

Plug-in hybrids are the ideal technology for a smooth transition to fully electric mobility: they allow their batteries to be recharged by plugging into the grid, they can travel for many kilometers in electric mode without generating local emissions, and they boast the high range offered by their efficient combustion engine. And with very short recharging times, they also carry the ZERO emissions label !
The advantage of a plug-in hybrid is that it allows you to take full advantage of its electric driving mode, with frequent recharging at home and/or at work, and many weekly kilometers traveled without consuming gasoline or generating local emissions. Thanks to this, they can cover most of their daily commutes with the energy consumption of an electric car (between €0.50 and €2 per 100 kilometers), which is much more economical than gasoline.
But what about when the battery runs out? Most plug-in vehicles increase their consumption to around 8 l/100 km, however, in the Kia Ceed Tourer PHEV , we found consumption of less than 5 l/100 km. Specifically, and on a multi-day trip, with more than 1,000 km of route without plugging in, the average consumption was 4.7 l/100, a very interesting figure.
This model features a 61 hp electric motor, a maximum torque of 170 Nm, and an 8.9 kWh battery. The electric range is close to 50 km, enough for most daily city trips, taking the kids to school, or shopping, to name a few. Not to mention the total range, which far exceeds 700 kilometers in real-world use.
With surprisingly good road handling. Quiet, comfortable, and safe. You don't notice at all that you're in a large vehicle, and the shift between hybrid and electric mode is very smooth. Interpreting the multimedia system is also very simple and easy.
The model is a C-segment wagon designed to meet all the needs of a multi-family household. First, its appearance recalls the sporty design of the Stinger and brings elegant style to the compact wagon segment through attractive, precise details. It is characterized by a set-back cabin profile that gives its lines a mature and distinct character. At the front, it features a wider "tiger-nose" grille and a lower air intake framed by precise, straight lines. The model is distinguished by the standard "ice-cube" LED daytime running lights, reminiscent of those found on the GT-Line versions.
In profile, the sharp, straight lines visually lengthen the hood and give it a more elevated stance. The shoulder line runs more horizontally, creating an impression of maturity and strength, while the D-pillar is contoured to give the upper window line an elegant crescent shape. At the rear, the LED headlights give the Ceed Tourer greater visibility and make it more recognizable on the road. Combined with the straight lines of the body and the subtle rear spoiler, the Ceed Tourer stands out with a more stable appearance.
The Ceed Tourer's cabin is highly ergonomic and upholstered with quality materials, a design that creates a greater sense of space and openness for front passengers, as well as providing more legroom and a clearer forward view. However, the trunk is the most spacious. It reaches up to 625 liters, more than most family vehicles in other segments. The loading sill is significantly low, making it easy to load heavy items.
Since expectations for C-segment estates go beyond a large trunk volume, versatility and functionality are strong points of the Ceed Tourer, making it one of the most practical cars in its class. The rear seatback has a 60:40 split configuration and can be folded down completely. With the seats folded down, the trunk floor is completely flat. All Ceed Tourers will have a storage space under the trunk for the secure storage of small items, as well as a flexible cover and bag hook to prevent groceries and other items from rolling around on the load floor. On the exterior, roof bars are standard equipment.
