When we learn to drive, one of the first things we're taught in driving school is how to operate the pedals. From right to left are the accelerator, brake, and clutch.

The clutch is responsible for shifting gears correctly. It's a fundamental part of vehicles, as without it, cars can't move (unless they're automatic).

Therefore, it's important to take good care of it and not over-tighten it, just like with the gear shift. Juan José, a mechanic who uploads videos to TikTok, explained in a video how to best maintain it.

The first thing he says is that, while we're at a traffic light, it's best to leave the car in neutral "without playing with the gear lever." This way, both the clutch pedal and the gearshift can rest a bit.

The main reason is that if both the pedal and the gearshift are constantly depressed and engaged, they create friction that ends up affecting parts of the engine, which can cause problems in the long term.
