Goodbye to speeding fines: here are all the DGT radars in Madrid

Fixed radars are celebrating their 20th anniversary since they were first implemented in Spain in 2005. Although some people are against them, believing that their purpose is to raise revenue, the truth is that their real purpose is to improve road safety, reducing the average speed on the roads and thus combating accidents.
Today, there are 763 fixed speed control points throughout the country, on motorways, dual carriageways and conventional national roads. Although it should be noted that this figure does not include those located in Catalonia and the Basque Country, since traffic powers have been transferred in both territories.
Despite such a large number and the fact that the presence of fixed radars is always announced by vertical signs on the road, speeding is the main cause of fines imposed by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), as reflected in a DGT report to which Servimedia had access .

In Spain, speeding is the main cause of road safety penalties.
Ricardo Rubio - Europa Press / Europa PressAccording to the aforementioned report, fixed and mobile radars detected 3,355,287 speeding violations in 2023, 64.5% of the total traffic fines imposed in that year. Of this figure, fixed gantry radars generated 2,468,065 fines, which represents 47.4% of the total.
And of all of them, the radar with the most fines – that is, the one that detected the most violations – is located in Madrid. Specifically, it is located at kilometer 20.2 of the M-40 and issued a record number of fines in 2023, with a total of 118,149, as stated in a report by the Associated European Motorists (AEA).

There are a total of 75 speed cameras in Madrid.
