GM San Luis Potosí workers vote for union

Guanajuato - On the final day of voting to elect a union at the General Motors plant in San Luis Potosí , the company guaranteed full respect for the freedom of association and collective rights of its unionized workers.

In a statement sent to the media, the company stated that this union election is under the direct supervision of the Federal Center for Labor Conciliation and Registration , as established by law.

At GM, we respect the freedom of collective association and the exercise of union rights, and as always, we will act in compliance with the law," the company stated.

General Motors ' stance came after the SINTTIA union , which also represents workers at the GM plant in Silao , denounced alleged interference practices by the company during the electoral process.

The company reiterated that it will continue to adhere to Mexican standards of freedom of association, ensuring an impartial and respectful environment for all workers.

This union process is part of the new rules established by the labor reform and the commitments of the USMCA to strengthen labor rights in Mexico .

Federal Center authorities will announce the official results after the voting process concludes this Friday, June 27.

Workers reported that personnel from the National Human Rights Commission were present at the voting as observers, who confirmed that the right to vote was exercised without any interference.

The process will determine which union organization will hold the collective bargaining agreement at the San Luis Potosí Manufacturing Complex .

The unions seeking representation are Carlos Leone , created temporarily by the plant workers who formed the Labor Communication Council , while a new Collective Labor Agreement is signed, and the Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers (SINTTIA) .

This election has special significance for SINTTIA , since if it wins, it would represent General Motors workers in both Silao and San Luis Potosí , the most important cities in the country for this company; or if it loses, it would be a cold shower, hampering its progress as a union.

The GM plant in San Luis has workers originally from Guanajuato , mainly from the municipalities of San Felipe and Ocampo , including San Luis de la Paz and San Diego de la Unión , bordering San Luis Potosí .

On the last day, it was reported that company workers received calls from people identifying themselves as representatives of SINTTIA, urging them to join the union.
