Footballer Diogo Jota's car: a Lamborghini Huracán that can reach speeds of over 300 km/h and costs almost €340,000 new.

The images of the accident attest to its brutality. Among the charred wreckage, barely recognizable remains of the car in which footballer Diogo Jota and his brother André were traveling remain. The vehicle apparently suffered a blowout and ended up leaving the road before bursting into flames. The two occupants died, probably instantly.

Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota dies after his car catches fire following an accident in Zamora .

The car's license plate has been identified as a Lamborghini , according to the Civil Guard. Pending official confirmation, it appears to be a Huracán model, based on the only recognizable features of the accident: the wheels. Furthermore, the scant structural integrity that remains intact rules out the possibility of a Urus, a model also very popular with footballers, but much larger: five meters long, two meters wide, and almost 1.64 meters high.

In contrast, the Huracán is much more compact: it measures 4.5 meters long, almost two meters wide, but only 1.2 meters high. It's a two-seater, while the Urus (which is Lamborghini's best-selling car by far) is an SUV with capacity for five people.

The Huracán went on sale in 2014 and has had a multitude of variants, so it's impossible to know which one was the exact one involved in the accident that claimed the lives of the two footballers. When it came onto the market instead of the Gallardo, the first model already produced 610 hp and was capable of reaching 325 km/h.

Four versions are currently sold: the Tecnica, STO, STO Spider, and Starrato . The latter is a very special version designed for driving on dirt tracks. The STO, for example, is powered by a V10 engine with a displacement of over five liters and 639 hp, allowing it to reach a top speed of 310 km/h (190 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in just three seconds.

The Lamborghini Huracán has an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive , which makes it much more difficult to regain control in a difficult situation like a flat tire, regardless of the speed at which Diogo Jota and André's car was traveling. In Spain, a new Huracan STO costs almost €340,000 without extras.
