DS No. 8, an electric ocean liner with the agility of a utility vehicle

DS No. 8, an electric ocean liner with the agility of a utility vehicle

DS takes a leap into the future with the new Nº8, its new flagship, an electric SUV with a coupé silhouette that, despite its 4.82 meters, moves with the agility of a utility vehicle and offers a range of up to 750 km. It competes in the premium segment of large sedans with a price starting at 57,000 euros. It comes in two versions, the Pallas and the Étolie, both with two battery capacities combined with a 2- or 4-wheel drive transmission and power outputs ranging from 230 hp to 350 hp.

Regardless of the engine chosen, the available power and torque allow the N°8 to blend easily into the flow of traffic. Its agility in twisty, narrow, and mountainous terrain, as we experienced in the Swiss Alps, is more appropriate for a compact model than a nearly five-meter ocean liner.

Performance made possible by controlled traction, both in the two- and four-wheel-drive versions. The N°8 demonstrates constant agility while preserving the peace of mind of its occupants. It takes full advantage of the device that analyzes the road ahead using an integrated camera and independently adjusts its shock absorbers in real time.

This technology offers a smooth ride while ensuring extraordinary dynamic precision. It also integrates a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system capable of managing lane changes, adapting speed to road curves, and keeping the vehicle in the center of its lane.

In its presentation letter, the new DS No. 8 boasts one of the most competitive electric ranges on the market, at 750 kilometers. This figure is significantly contributed to by the model's aerodynamics. Every element of the bodywork has been designed to contribute to its aerodynamic efficiency (Cx of 0.24 and SCx of 0.63 dm2), which allows it to achieve range targets among the best on the market.

Its generous dimensions (4.82 m long, 1.90 m wide, 1.58 m high and 2.90 m wheelbase) give it great handling on the road, while its cabin offers a space and atmosphere that redefine the standards of the segment.

The front end features a grille with a distinctive light signature thanks to the 'DS pixel LED vision 3.0' headlights, which adapt their beams in real time to traffic conditions and, together with the vertical 'DS lightblade', give it a new visual identity.

The dynamic profile is highlighted by integrated door handles, lines that play with airflow, and wheels measuring up to 21 inches. At the rear, the vertical structure of the lighting signature ensures perfect visual coherence with the front end and reinforces the technological anchoring of the No. 8.

The interior conveys a sense of comfort and serenity thanks to the careful selection of materials, textures, lighting, and acoustics. The cabin is designed with high-quality materials such as Nappa leather and Alcantara, which contains 68% recycled materials.

The dashboard design is fluid, seamless, and without visible seams. The Clous de Paris guilloché on the steering wheel and air vents, as well as the pearl stitching on the dashboard and armrests, are distinctive elements of the brand.

The wraparound front seats adapt perfectly to the body thanks to the use of high-density foam and adjustable side cushions. Depending on the trim level, they have a massage function, are ventilated and heated, as is the steering wheel, and incorporate a device that emits gentle warm air at the nape of the neck. The rear seat is very spacious and guarantees first-class comfort.

On the dashboard, the N° 8 features two screens. One is a 12.25-inch HD instrument cluster, complemented by the head-up display—a front screen that projects relevant information through the windshield. The central screen is 16 inches, customizable like the instrument cluster, and seamlessly integrated into the dashboard. It provides access to the extended voice recognition functions of the DS Iris system 2.0, which works as smoothly and responsively as a smartphone.

Its spaciousness isn't just for the occupants; it's also reflected in the storage capacity in various locations throughout the cabin, which adds to a large trunk capacity of up to 620 liters.

The N°8 offers three fully electric powertrains. From 230 hp, with a 73.7 kWh battery for a range of up to 550 km (WLTP), to 350 hp, and then to 250 hp, with a 97.2 kWh battery for a range of up to 750 km.

All these engines benefit from a temporary power increase, adding an additional 30 hp to the FWD version, i.e., 260 hp, 35 hp to the FWD LONG RANGE version, i.e., 280 hp, and 25 hp to the AWD LONG RANGE version, i.e., 375 hp.

The N°8 offers first-class acceleration. The FWD version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds, the FWD Long Range in 7.8 seconds, while the N°8 AWD Long Range needs just 5.4 seconds to complete the same maneuver. Regardless of the engine, the N°8's top speed is self-limited to 190 km/h.

The Long Range battery recharges at up to 160 kW of direct current, allowing it to recover 200 km of range in 10 minutes. In this context, recharging from 20% to 80% takes 27 minutes. For everyday use, an integrated 11 kW charger enables efficient charging at home or at a public station.

The brand markets the model as the embodiment of French-style travel, with all the advantages of electric mobility. A pleasure that begins the moment you sit in the cabin, thanks to its ambient lighting and the immersive sound of its 14-speaker Focal Electra 3D hi-fi system.

In nighttime conditions, a technological system improves nighttime visibility thanks to an infrared camera located in the bumper. This allows the N°8 to detect pedestrians and animals up to 300 meters ahead.

In any weather condition, vision is enhanced by the 'Matrix LED' headlights, which combine matrix and directional lights that adapt to traffic conditions, steering angle, speed, and weather with five preset modes: city, countryside, highway, adverse weather conditions, and fog. They also allow driving constantly with high beams on without ever dazzling other drivers. Thanks to the camera located at the top of the windshield, these intelligent headlights automatically adapt their light beams to traffic conditions with a range of almost 300 meters without dazzling.
