Checo's absence affects F1 in Mexico, according to Michel Jourdain Jr.

Sergio "Checo" Pérez 's departure from Red Bull has left a difficult-to-fill void in Formula 1 (F1) and also represents a threat to the media future of motorsport in Mexico, according to the legendary Michel Jourdain Jr.
The leading figure in motorsports in our country warns that without a tricolor representative in the top category, public interest could decline: "We have to be grateful that we've had a Mexican driver in Formula One for so long, because every cycle begins and ends... Nothing lasts forever."
"The risk is significant. For me, it's about being grateful for the time Checo has been around and supporting motorsports so there are more young drivers," he explained.
However, the current Fox Sports analyst has not lost hope that Checo Pérez will return to the Grand Circus and points to Cadillac, a team that will debut in 2026, as a viable option: "There's a chance he'll come back. I hope this Cadillac thing happens and - mainly - that they give him a good car, because Checo is a great driver and has super talent, But it's a new team, so the risk is significant."
The Guadalajara native's departure from Red Bull was not a surprise to him.
"It was complicated. When you do it for the big teams, the pressure is much higher, and that's what happened," he recalled. "You have one driver who won the championship by a considerable margin (Max Verstappen) and the other (Pérez) finishes eighth; they lost the constructors' championship."
Despite that, he insisted on the Guadalajara native's talent: "I'm sure the team made every effort to give Checo everything they could, and of course it's very easy to see that now, seeing that Liam Lawson had a really tough time and knowing that the car was very difficult to drive."
