You didn't know these Dacia figures

You didn't know these Dacia figures

We really like Dacia, and apparently you, dear readers, do too. Our statistics reveal that there's nothing you love more than clicking on articles about the budget brand from Romania. The Renault subsidiary has now built its eight millionth car at its main plant in Mioveni, Romania. And to mark the occasion, it also presented us with some interesting statistics about the brand that you probably didn't know before.

But let's start with the obvious: Dacia is doing well. Last year, they sold 676,340 vehicles, an increase of 2.7 percent over the previous year.

A new era began for the Romanians in 2004 with the Logan. The new Dacia as we know it today was born (although Renault took over the manufacturer in 1999). Since then, more than nine million cars have been sold.

The Mioveni plant played the largest role in this, setting the historic record there. The brand's cradle was inaugurated on August 20, 1968, with the launch of the Dacia 1100 model, a licensed version of the Renault R8.

During the first three decades of its existence, production was dominated by the model family developed under license from the Renault 12: the Dacia 1300/1310 and its derivatives (1310 Sport, 1320, 1325, Pick-Up) were produced between 1969 and 2006 in a volume of almost 2.3 million units, of which 319,000 were commercial vehicles.

A new generation of models, developed entirely in Romania, was launched in 1995 under the name Dacia Nova. Based on this model, Dacia later developed the SupeRNova (in autumn 2000) and the Solenza (in spring 2003).

Twenty years ago, in June 2005 to be precise, the Dacia Logan arrived in German showrooms. It wasn't particularly attractive, but it was dirt cheap, which still strikes a chord today. To date, Dacia has produced 1.7 million Logans (including its variants).

Other new models were added, such as the Sandero (880,000 units between 2008 and 2025) and the Duster, all of which continue to follow the design-to-cost development principle to this day. More than 250,000 units of the Jogger minivan have been sold since 2021. Dacia has now sold nearly 1,000,000 vehicles in Germany. In the last three years alone, the number has exceeded 200,000. Particularly unusual: almost 80 percent go to private customers. The brand's largest market, however, is France.

Unsurprisingly, the Duster compact SUV is the undisputed sales leader. Since its launch in 2010 (now in its third generation), more than 2.6 million units have been produced. It is considered an icon within the Dacia model portfolio. The latest model produced at the Mioveni plant is the Bigster , the brand's first C-segment SUV.

The Dacia brand is represented in 44 countries on four continents, with over 70 percent of total sales coming from Western Europe.
