Omoda 3: Small Chinese Lambo to come to Germany in 2026

Omoda 3: Small Chinese Lambo to come to Germany in 2026

You may have recently seen Omoda in our extensive electric range test . The Chinese manufacturer competed with the compact SUV 5. Officially, the Chery Group brand is still not available here, but that should change soon. The new Omoda 3, which was recently unveiled at Omoda Jaecoo's headquarters in Wuhu, China, will also play an important role.

It's a compact crossover that's targeting the MG 4 and the Kia EV3 . A Dacia Duster also seems to fit the bill. We're dealing with Omoda's smallest model to date. Development began on the drawing board a good two years ago. The goal: to primarily appeal to the tastes of European customers. The 3 is 4.20 meters long, features an angular, sporty design, and boasts a lavish range of technology.

A little bit of robot, a little bit of Lamborghini

The design is robotic, inspired by Japanese comics (mecha design). Especially at the front, the shape of the headlights and the design of the bumpers are strongly reminiscent of the Lamborghini Urus .

But it's not just the front end that borrows from the super SUV from Sant'Agata Bolognese: The angular wheel arches and the strongly sculpted fenders also exude bullish vibes. The rear, in turn, has a more distinctive feel. Omoda has given the taillights individually adjustable lighting effects.

The car is based on the same T1X platform as the Omoda 5, the new Omoda 7, and the large SUV Omoda 9. The compact SUV Jaecoo 7 and the smaller, new Jaecoo 5 also use this architecture.

Chery is targeting its Omoda brand specifically at a younger audience. The presentation highlighted various elements of the Omoda 3, including the science-fiction-inspired digital dashboard graphics, a "spaceship" sound option, and the ability to connect a Nintendo Switch to the infotainment screen.

Omoda also promised a tuning option called the “Official Racing Pack” as well as official vehicle foils.

The "Starship" cockpit features a minimalist layout, dominated by a vertical central screen and a surrounding LED light strip. Interestingly, Lamborghini is once again referenced here – in the form of the fighter-jet-like start button with a folding protective cover.

In Europe at the end of 2026

The Omoda 3 is scheduled to be officially unveiled at the end of 2025. We expect more information on the technical specifications then. The car is expected to arrive in dealerships at the end of 2026. In addition to a fully electric version, there will also be versions with hybrid and plug-in hybrid drivetrains.

It's still difficult to estimate prices at this point. We expect a starting price of around €20,000. A well-equipped electric version could cost around €30,000.
