MotoGP - Marc Marquez's total MotoGP dominance: Does Dorna have to slow him down? The boss says

The total dominance of superstar Marc Marquez is stifling MotoGP , or at least that's how some feel. Some racing series have had rules like winning weights and similar measures in the past to counteract one-sided championships. Could this also be a way to get other winners in the premier class besides the number 93? The MotoGP boss has a more than clear answer to such speculation.

MotoGP boss makes it clear: The best rider should win!

"A few years ago, when there were many different Grand Prix winners every season, people said MotoGP was missing a hero. Now we have one who wins every race, and the same people are now saying we know who the world champion is too early," Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta responded to the media at a pre-race event in Barcelona when asked about Marquez's dominance. For him, the goal should not be to criticize, but rather to admire his achievement: "Marquez hasn't received the global recognition he deserves."

Accordingly, he also has a clear opinion on any ideas that could artificially slow down the exceptional rider. "Definitely not! This is the World Championship, and the best riders should win," Ezpeleta stated unequivocally. Later, he reiterated: "We have to organize things so that everyone has a level playing field. We can't interfere with the show. We're not thinking about that, and we won't do that."

Given this cancellation, it's also logical on whose shoulders the fans' hopes for more variety at the top should rest: "The only way Marc's winning streak will end is if another rider emerges who believes he can beat him and who also has the necessary equipment. We [the MotoGP officials, editor's note] will never intervene to prevent a rider from winning."

Will Marquez's dominance end only with new MotoGP rules in 2027?

Marc Marquez's Ducati is still considered the best bike in the field, although some consider last year's GP24 model even better. The other manufacturers have received certain concessions, depending on their championship standings, to better close the gap. However, Ducati itself has never been actively held back.

Therefore, even the man with the penchant for sweaters doesn't see an early end to the dominance of the best rider on the best bike. Only the already certain major change in two years' time does Carmelo Ezpeleta recognize as a potential turning point in the balance of power in MotoGP: "We've introduced the concessions, and manufacturers like Aprilia have made great progress. Personally, I believe the new technical regulations for 2027 will change the picture."

To secure the best bike, Marc Marquez took the remarkable step of joining Gresini 's private team in 2024. He recently revealed a surprising detail about this collaboration. Read more here:
