Yamaha has cast its dice for the 2026 MotoGP season: After repeatedly delaying its decision on the final starting slot in the Pramac customer team, it is now official that Jack Miller will fill it. Yamaha will therefore line up next year with Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins in the factory team, and Toprak Razgatlioglu and Miller in Pramac Racing.
Jack Miller puts pressure on Yamaha - and winsThe decision follows an ultimatum Miller recently issued to his employer at the Hungarian Grand Prix. After new riders were repeatedly linked with a Yamaha contract, Miller publicly exploded: "I've given Yamaha more than enough time. Either they want me or they don't. I have other options." Miller doesn't have to take them now. He will continue to ride on the M1 in 2026.
Miller's contract extension also makes it clear that Miguel Oliveira has no future at Yamaha—and probably not as a regular rider in MotoGP in general. While there is still a seat available for 2026, it will de facto go to Diogo Moreira at LCR Honda. Oliveira will either have to settle for a role as a test rider or look for a different paddock.
Manuel Gonzalez must wait for MotoGP promotionManuel Gonzalez will also be sidelined due to Miller's retention. After Honda beat Yamaha in the battle for Moto2 rising star Diogo Moreira – the Brazilian is scheduled to ride for the LCR team in 2026 and move up to the factory team for the 2027 and 2028 seasons – Yamaha also tried to secure the services of Manuel Gonzalez. However, this weekend in Hungary, he received the manufacturer's official rejection of a regular 2026 seat.
Yamaha reportedly made Gonzalez an offer for a role as a test and reserve rider, which the 23-year-old declined. Everything indicates that the Moto2 World Championship leader will continue to compete for the German IntactGP team in the mid-level World Championship class in 2026.
