Motorcycle racing is in mourning. Former Moto2 World Championship rider Borja Gomez was killed in a crash during practice for the Stock European Championship at Magny-Cours on Thursday.

Borja Gomez has died. The Spaniard, who competed in the Moto2 World Championship in 2022 and 2023, crashed on Thursday at Magny-Cours. His crash occurred during the first free practice session of the Stock European Championship race weekend, in which Gomez is a regular rider this year.

A few hours later, it was sad news: Gomez succumbed to his serious injuries. The man from San Javier in the Murcia region was only 20 years old. His Laglisse team confirmed the death on social media: "It is with great sadness that we announce that Borja Gómez passed away at the Magny-Cours circuit following a serious accident during the first free practice session of the European Stock Championship. In addition to his exceptional talent as a driver, we will remember Borja as a great person. His compassion and his smile will remain with us forever. We will always carry him in our hearts. On behalf of the entire Laglisse team, we would like to express our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. We love you, Borja. Rest in peace."
Gomez first appeared at the national level in 2014, finishing third in the Spanish Minimotard 65 Championship. He then finished second in 2015. In 2019, he moved to the Kawasaki Cup, where he again finished third. In 2021, his first major success came when Gomez became Spanish Supersport Champion. A year later, he was defeated only by Tito Rabat in the Superbikes.
Borja Gomez: 15 World Championship starts in Moto2In 2022 and 2023, Gomez competed for Pons Racing and the Fantic Team in the Moto2 World Championship. He scored four World Championship points in a total of 15 races. In 2025, Gomez competed in the Stock European Championship, where he had a strong start to the season. He finished second in the season opener in Estoril, won the subsequent race in Jerez, and thus arrived at Magny-Cours as the championship leader. At the same time, he also competed in the Spanish Superbike Championship, where he was also the leader after three race weekends.
