Full hybrid cars: All the new models for 2025

Full hybrid cars: All the new models for 2025

Full hybrid cars are no longer exclusive to Toyota. Automakers are increasingly adding this powertrain to their product ranges, sometimes even as a replacement for diesel. They want to appeal to customers seeking low fuel consumption, the benefits of electrification, and the convenience of not having to worry about charging the battery.

Thanks in part to Toyota , the first group to truly popularise "full" hybrid technology, where you drive in electric mode for more than half the time, so-called HEVs have reached 11.8% of European registrations in 2024 (source: JATO Dynamics), compared to 4.8% in 2020.

However, the widespread presence of full hybrids, which has led more than one in ten drivers to choose this vehicle type, is not supported by an equally broad range of new products. In recent months, a few redesigned full hybrid vehicles and only a few completely new models have been introduced.

Here is the list of manufacturers that will launch new or updated full hybrid cars in 2025, in alphabetical order by brand:

  • Dacia
  • Honda
  • Jaecoo
  • Kia
  • Lexus
  • Renault
  • Toyota
  • Volkswagen
  • Wey

Among the most eagerly anticipated and exciting new cars of 2025 is the Dacia Bigster , the Romanian brand's largest SUV to date, which takes the concept of a practical and affordable car to the next level. Among the powertrains, the new 155 Hybrid is particularly noteworthy, combining a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with an electric motor producing a combined 156 hp.

The Dacia Bigster is also available with a 156 hp full hybrid

The Dacia Bigster Full Hybrid features front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. Its homologated WLTP fuel consumption is 4.6 l/100 km. The 4.57-meter-long SUV has a base price of €28,590 in Germany with the full hybrid, and first deliveries are planned for May 2025.

Honda

The Honda HR-V was recently updated with a modified front end and headlights, redesigned lights, new equipment, colors and trim, while its full hybrid powertrain remains unchanged.

The e:HEV hybrid system combines a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine with two electric motors, an automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive for a total output of 131 hp and a combined fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100 km. The base price in Germany is €34,700.

A mid-model-cycle facelift is also expected for the Honda Civic in Europe, which will update the styling and equipment.

The full hybrid engine, the 2.0 Atkinson cycle combined with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission, remains "untouched." It is not yet known whether the power will remain at 184 hp or increase to 203 hp, as in the US.

Jaecoo

The Jaecoo 5 , a Chinese compact SUV with a length of 4.38 meters, which will be the smaller sister of the Jaecoo 7, will be presented for some European markets in mid-2025.

After the market launch, a Jaecoo 5 with a full hybrid engine producing 147 hp and a power unit that could be an electrified version of the 1.6 four-cylinder engine is expected to be added to the model range. The still unofficial price could start at €30,000.

Kia

The facelifted Kia Sportage has already been shown in South Korea and the US, but it will also debut in Europe at the end of the year, with a comprehensive restyling that changes the front end, the Starmap light signature, the interior screens and parts of the cockpit.

Although official information is lacking, it's already safe to assume that the 1.6 T-GDI HEV engine will be confirmed. A full hybrid that now develops 215 hp and is available with front- or all-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Lexus

The Lexus ES is a Japanese premium sedan that isn't sold in large numbers in Europe. It's scheduled to be launched here by the end of 2025 with a facelift focusing on the front end, headlights, and the 14-inch infotainment screen.

The redesign of the Lexus ES for China

The redesigned Lexus ES, which has already been seen in China, is expected to retain the full hybrid powertrain with an electrified 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine producing 218 hp, but also front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.

Renault

The new Renault Clio, expected for summer 2025, is already making waves, and CEO Luca de Meo has already anticipated that it will have a "striking" design.

The French small car will focus on electrified, mild and full hybrid engines, including the new 1.8 full hybrid with around 160 hp, which will make its first appearance under the hood of the Clio.

But Renault has more full-hybrid innovations in store, starting with the just-introduced Espace , which changes its style at the front, in the headlights, in the sound insulation and in the offer of the Solarbay glass sunroof.

The Espace is confirmed to feature the familiar 200 hp 1.2-liter turbocharged full hybrid engine, combined with an automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The base price, which has not yet been announced, is expected to differ only slightly from that of the previous model.

Renault's second facelift for 2025 is the Austral , expected before the summer, which brings several styling and equipment updates similar to those already seen on the larger Espace and Symbioz .

The 1.2 E-Tech full hybrid engine with 200 hp, front-wheel drive and automatic transmission is also confirmed for the Renault Austral.

Toyota

Toyota will launch two new models in 2025, both full hybrids, as is the Japanese giant's tradition. The most eagerly anticipated is the new Toyota RAV4 , the sixth generation of one of the world's best-selling SUVs, expected between late 2025 and early 2026.

The current Toyota RAV4

At the moment there are only photos of test vehicles and an image from Chinese social media, but it is certain that the 2.5 full hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines (also with all-wheel drive) will be confirmed for Europe, perhaps with a little more power.

The second novelty of the Japanese brand between 2025 and 2026 is the restyling of the Toyota Corolla Cross , of which not much is known yet, apart from the possible similarity with the version recently seen in Thailand.

The revised Toyota Corolla Cross gets a new front end

Here too, there will be no shortage of full hybrid engines, 1.8 or 2.0 and with front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Toyota Yaris Cross is also included in this list of new full hybrids for 2025, as the Japanese compact SUV is preparing to offer a slightly revised version from May 2025.

These include updates to the interior, body colors, and alloy wheels, but the 1.5-liter full hybrid engines remain confirmed in the 115 and 130 hp versions, with front- or all-wheel drive.

Toyota Corolla Touring Sport Hybrid

The Toyota Corolla Touring Sports will also see minor changes to color, equipment, and accessories for 2025. Full hybrid engines with 1.8 and 2.0 liters of displacement have been confirmed.

Volkswagen

The new Volkswagen T-Roc has also been on everyone's lips lately, especially after the German manufacturer confirmed the arrival of the second generation in 2025, which will also feature an unprecedented full hybrid.

The T-Roc's debut is expected in the second half of 2025, with styling that the Tiguan will partially borrow, as our rendering and a leaked image show. However, the full hybrid engine, perhaps a modified version of Volkswagen's well-known 1.5 TSI, isn't expected until 2026, following the mild hybrid.

Wey

The Chinese Great Wall Motor Group, also known as GWM, will introduce the unprecedented full hybrid powertrain to the European market in 2025 for a model already sold in some countries as the Wey 03 .

GWM WEY 03: Full hybrid coming soon

The Wey 03 Hybrid could join the plug-in hybrid with the 243 hp 1.5-liter electric motor that is already used in the Haval H6 of the same group.
