Four drivers still without points: The Formula 1 record of the past years

(Motorsport-Total.com) - This is not how Fernando Alonso envisioned the 2025 season opening. After five races, the Spaniard is still waiting for his first points of the season and currently has zero points. All ten points for his Aston Martin team have been scored so far by teammate Lance Stroll, who is now in the top 10 of the drivers' standings.

But the veteran is not alone in his suffering: three other drivers are still waiting for their first points this year: Alpine driver Jack Doohan, Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto and Liam Lawson, who has even had the chance to try out for two teams, Red Bull and Racing Bulls.

Last year, the top 10 was much less diverse, as at that point, seven out of 20 drivers were still waiting for their first points.

With Alpine (Pierre Gasly & Esteban Ocon), Sauber (Guanyu Zhou & Valtteri Bottas) and Williams (Alexander Albon & Logan Sargeant) there were even three entire teams without any points, while this year all racing teams have already accumulated at least six points.

2024 is an exception in this regard, however, as there haven't been so many drivers without points in previous years. In 2023 and 2022, 18 of 20 drivers had already scored points after five races, with only Logan Sargent and Nyck de Vries, as well as Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi, not yet scoring.

In our photo gallery, we want to take a look at how many drivers have been without points in the standings after five races since the introduction of the current points system, with points awarded up to tenth place, and how this has developed. Drivers who were only substitutes were not taken into account.

Unsurprisingly, the early 2010s stand out, with at times nine drivers still having empty points accounts. However, with 24 drivers, there were four more drivers than today, and three new teams—Lotus/Caterham, Virgin/Marussia, and HRT—that never truly caught up with the rest of the field until the end of their existence and, with one exception, never scored any points.
