Costs and real consumption: BMW 330e M Sport

Costs and real consumption: BMW 330e M Sport

BMW specifies a WLTP fuel consumption of 1.5 liters of premium gasoline and 17.2 kWh per 100 kilometers for the 330e M Sport . This figure is lower in everyday driving. We determined an average fuel consumption of 2.3 liters and 19.8 kWh, resulting in costs of €12.15 per 100 kilometers. On the eco lap, the BMW consumed 5.7 liters, while on the commuter route it consumed 8.8 liters. When driven in sporty mode, fuel consumption rose to 10.7 liters. Average hybrid fuel consumption is 8.6 liters. On the all-electric lap, power consumption was 27.2 kWh. Fuel costs are calculated based on the current daily fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken (February 25, 2025 / premium gasoline: €1.68/liter ). The current average electricity price for households in 2024 has fallen by 11 percent, or 4.81 cents/kWh, compared to the previous year and now averages 40.92 cents/kWh (base price included, based on a consumption of 3,500 kWh/year; source: BDEW, the German Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industries). The electricity price at a public charging station is generally higher.

If you drive as resource-efficiently as we did on our Eco-Route, the cost per 100 kilometers is reduced to €10.03. The more aggressive driving results in a total of €18.83. The costs in hybrid mode amount to €15.14. For a purely electric journey, electricity costs €11.13. Vehicle tax for the BMW costs €10 per year, and liability insurance is €405. Partial and fully comprehensive insurance add an additional €197 and €731, respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of €265 are charged for those who drive the BMW 15,000 kilometers per year. If the mileage is doubled, the total rises to €532. We're not including depreciation in this calculation.

The auto motor und sport test consumption for plug-in hybrids is comprised of three differently weighted trips driven in hybrid mode. The so-called "commuter consumption" accounts for 70 percent. This is a trip from home to work, averaging 21 kilometers (starting with a flat battery). A particularly economical, approximately 275-kilometer Eco lap (starting with a flat battery) accounts for 15 percent of the rating. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the Sport Driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the Eco lap, but the route includes a larger portion of highway and thus, on average, higher speeds. An extra feature is the pure electric lap. This shows the maximum range in kilometers with a full battery until the combustion engine starts up. Consumption is calculated from the measured energy consumption including charging losses. The charging time for a full battery charge and the battery's energy consumption, including charging losses, are also measured. The basis for calculating fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "mehr Tanken" portal on the day the article was created.

Monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear parts, and vehicle taxes, assuming annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without depreciation. The calculation is based on test fuel consumption, a three-year ownership period, a no-claims bonus class of SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz, including discounts for garage parking, and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). SF12 represents a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz.
